February has been a very exciting month for our UK projects!
Our Cross Border Stitching (CBS) project in Southampton now has 17 women asylum seekers and migrants, speaking 7 different languages, all are either developing new skills, sharing existing skills or gaining qualifications.
We offer free and informal sessions for refugees, asylum-seekers and migrants, providing a welcoming and friendly space where they can meet, learn and access support. The women meet weekly, from 10:00 until 13:00 and have the opportunity to gain qualifications, learn sewing and craft skills, in addition to functional skills.
A significant number of the women we work with have limited English Speaking skills, and minimal English writing skills. We want to change that, enabling them to navigate through UK Society.
The sessions are delivered in a relaxed and friendly environment, providing an opportunity to meet new people and develop relationships.
Our Purple Futures Programme in Gloucester has definitely turned up a gear too. 15 women attended our Wellbeing and Employability training which was delivered over four days. This was a great opportunity to work with women to develop their employability skills, and also ways that they can increase their confidence, using positive verbal and body language.
We had such wonderful feedback too! “I think this is a great programme, that’s put in the right way to really benefit us”
The women are also busy learning new craft skills, and are currently learning how to make some of our new products which will be launched shortly! Watch this space!
To support all this great work, we want to make sure our beneficiaries gain skills that they will be able to use for the rest of their lives. So we are currently applying to become an approved centre with a well known awarding body for accredited qualifications.
We will keep you updated!
