Community Health Program
We believe that everyone has the right to receive health care.
For the communities we serve, health care is often a luxury that they cannot afford. Many families self-diagnose themselves and in some cases even share each other’s medicines without consulting a doctor first.
Our clinic delivers holistic high quality, patient-centered health care for uninsured and low-income families once a week, however, since lockdown, we have decided to open the clinic five days a week to extend our services to include a strong advocacy program that helps the community learn about how to stay healthy and caring for their mental health.
Our Clinic trains community volunteer health workers in basic first aid and health care so that they can care for their neighbors. Volunteer doctors, nurses, and dentists generously donate their time to deliver vital services for the community, ensuring that funds are spent for diagnostic procedures, laboratory tests and medicines.
Community Keep Fit
Exercise makes everyone feel happier and healthy
Our communities are used to keeping fit and active, and our students and the vulnerable adults take part in Zumba classes, taekwondo, circuit training, keep fit sessions, and weight training in our community centre (we have a large space and can maintain social distancing).
Community Kitchen
We use food as one of the foundations to change lives and strengthen the community.
Our health clinic noticed a growing number of children and senior citizens losing weight and rapidly moving into varying degrees of malnutrition. We started a community feeding program in August 2020 and designed a system where the children came into our center and ate their food, are weighed monthly receive daily vitamins. The parents of the children attend our cooking seminars and are taught how to cook healthy nutritious meals on a very low budget so that when their children have reached their ideal weight their parents can maintain their weight and we can enroll another batch of children in our program.
The senior citizens can also learn how to cook low-cost meals and thoroughly enjoying meeting together.
£30.00 will provide a family-size food pack which includes 15kg rice, 10 canned goods and fresh vegetables. It costs 75p a meal to feed a malnourished child with a vitamin supplement.
