We would like to introduce you all to our rather extraordinary marathon runner Rod Sharp.
Rod decided that to celebrate his 70th birthday he was going to fulfil a lifelong ambition of running the London Marathon (his third and he has promised his wife final marathon!) luckily for us he will be doing so to raise funds for Purple!
The photo above was taken during Rods visit to our projects in Manila last year, seeing first hand the extreme poverty and challenges faced by our families his efforts turned from being about a personal challenge to an opportunity to do all he could to support our work to transform their lives.
For Rod it was this image that got him up and out on his long training runs in the lead up to the event.
Rod who currently lives in Seattle encountered a gruelling training schedule as they encountered an unsually cold, wet and at times snowy winter. But he did not give up and described thinking of the children in Manila like those pictured above made it easy for him to stay focused and committed.
He has also had the full support of his family including his beautiful grandsons Liam and Max who will be cheering him on in the t-shirts his son-in-law so kindly designed (pictured below).
Rod on behalf of Team Purple and all our beneficaries we wanted to extend our sincerest thanks for all your efforts up to now overcoming all the obstacles in training attending the physio appointments, fundraising and staying so committed and motivated we are grateful.
We are looking forward to celebrating with you on your successful completion of the race at the end of the month.
We hope you will all join us in wishing Rod well and please visit his fundraising page and share it to help him reach his fundraising target: https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-display/showROFundraiserPage?pageId=1009601
Go Rod!
